The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ was centred around angelic, prophetic and supernatural manifestations, majority of which were through dreams. We first see in Matthew 1:18-20, how an angel appeared unto Joseph in a dream explaining to him the mystery of the pregnancy of Mary, after he had planned to secretly break up with her because of her unknown pregnancy. Afterwards, God still revealed more and more things regarding baby Jesus through dreams. In this issue, we shall be discussing on the dreams that saved baby Jesus’ life.

The Three Wise Men

Jesus - three wise menWhen Jesus was born, these wise men saw his star and came from the east to Jerusalem to find this child who was to be born the King of the Jews. King Herod heard this and was baffled, he then called the chief priests and scribes to inquire of them, the place of Jesus’ birth. These scribes were highly learned in the things of the scriptures and knew according to the prophecy of Micah that he was to be born in Bethlehem. Herod then secretly called the wise men and sent them to Bethlehem to locate Jesus and tell him the location of his birth, in the deception of him also coming to worship him (Matthew 2:1-9).

They located baby Jesus through his star and worshipped him, presenting him gifts. When they were done, they were meant to go back to Herod to give him the good news that they had found Jesus and give him the exact location, as he claimed to also acknowledge this king and desired to worship him also. The wise men did not know the evil agenda of Herod, but God knew and He had to communicate to these three wise men not to go back to Herod. How then did God communicate with them? He did it through a dream. Matthew 2:12 says,

“And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.”

They were warned of God in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod. If these wise men could locate and decipher the mystery of stars, then they definitely would have known the power, authenticity and potency of dreams as a major spiritual feedback mechanism. As a result, they adhered to the warning and departed into their own country via another route. If they had just taken it to be a dream and just swept it under their pillow, they would have still gone back to Herod and Herod would have located and killed Jesus, and we would have no saviour, mediator and intercessor today. This is the first dream that saved baby Jesus’ life.

Joseph Must Flee

Jesus flight into EgyptTo show you the power of dreams, after warning the wise men against Herod, God knew that Herod won’t just continue expecting the wise men, he knew that Herod was going to do everything possible to find baby Jesus and kill him; God then warned Joseph in a dream also to take the baby and mother, and run for the baby’s dear life. This is no joke at all. The Bible says in Matthew 2:13,

“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”

This is Jesus Christ we are talking about here, the Son of God, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. If dreams were not the number one tool of spiritual communication with humanity, God wouldn’t have used them to warn these people, He would have used another alternative; think about it. Would God joke with the life of His only begotten son?

Matthew 2:14 makes us to understand that Joseph acted upon the instruction of the angel in the dream and arose immediately, taking the baby with his mother and fleeing into Egypt by night.

The Proposed Repercussion of Negligence

Jesus - massacre If the wise men had neglected the warning in the dream, they would have gone back to Herod, who would have located the baby and killed him. If Joseph had neglected the instruction of the angel in the dream, he would have remained in Bethlehem; and in the massacre of all children that were two years at most (Matthew 2:16), the baby Jesus would have been killed among them. Do you see that without dreams, there would be no Christianity today? Hate or love it, the facts remain clear.

The Green Light

When the coast was clear (when Herod died), the same God who warned them through dreams still came through a dream and notified them that the coast was clear for them to return into Israel. Lastly, God still warned Joseph again through another dream that made him depart into Galilee and dwell in Nazareth (Matthew 2:19-22). It was all through dreams!

Summary

God saved His son’s life through dreams, I still ask again, would God joke with the life of His only begotten son? There were four distinct dreams from the three wise men to the last warning to Joseph, all to protect the life of the Son of God. If God would operate through dreams when His son’s life was at stake, that makes dreams the number one spiritual feedback mechanism. We can therefore conclude that without dreams, there would be no Christianity today.

Don’t joke with your dreams anymore, study your dreams, decipher the source, prayerfully attend to them and physically respond to them as directed, and you will never be put to shame.

Cheers and God bless you infinitely!!!
