Yet again and as always, I will never stop to make reference to the importance of wisdom and understanding in the knowledge of God as covered in “The Significance of the Motive behind Bible Study”. This strange occurrence I’m about to share with you really happened; I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or run, it was just really weird. These fallacies just keep getting more and more interesting!

Fresh Graduate

So a certain Bible School had just finished a session and graduated the next set of controversial beings called “Pastors”. I can’t even remember whether my mum also attended the Bible School or it was a newly employed pastor in the church at that time – who later was a big disappointment – but someone or something carried her to that Bible School graduation.

Well, the next thing we knew was that my mum had agreed with one of those fresh pastor graduates to come to the house and start a House Fellowship. I was just on my way to go play ball when the elderly man arrived and I couldn’t sneak out, the house was very small, the coast was not clear and besides, nobody wanted her trouble so we all stayed.

This man started to preach or teach (whichever) and we all just sat there. I honestly cannot remember what he was talking about, but I vividly remember what he did.

The Fallacy

Standing on the Bible FallacyAfter he was done with his message, it was now time to pray, so we all stood up. Before he started his prayer, he then did something really funny; like I said, I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or run. He took his Bible which was big, placed it on the floor, decreed that he was standing on the word of God and literally stood on it; as in, he literally stood on the Bible; as in, he was standing on the Bible! As in, do you know that song that goes thus?

I’m standing on the word of God
The word of God is power
I’m standing on the word of God
The word of God is power

He was literally standing on the Bible proclaiming that he was standing on the word of God as he prayed and made some certain decrees or declarations.

Is It Biblical?

Standing on the Bible 2The answer is no! Standing on the word of God in the Bible was purely based on the actual spoken or written word of God. Wouldn’t that rather be a desecration of the Bible? After all, what is written on almost every Bible? Is it not ‘Holy Bible’? I’m guessing there must have been some sort of teaching or doctrine that he was taught suggesting or permitting such an act, I don’t think he would have cooked up such fallacy on his own, yet it’s possible. So to prove that we are standing on the word of God, we must now literally stand on the Bible before we pray or make any declaration?

Just imagine if God’s grace was not sufficient upon our lives to know the truth, all our foot mats would be Holy Bibles, so that we can be standing on the word of God in our going out and coming in; so that we can stand on the word of God even if we want to use the toilet or enter the kitchen? In fact, the aisle of the church would be decorated with Hole Bibles so that people can be standing on the word of God as they walk down the aisle to be sure that God is answering their prayers? Others, as seen in the images above, are also standing on the Bible on the basis of Romans 1:16 and Mark 8:38, to show that they are not ashamed of the gospel; come on! Well, for the group standing on the moulded Bible, that’s different, it’s figurative; but for the ones arguing about the so-called significance of literally standing on the Bible, come on stop that! The same Bible in Joshua 1:8 says:

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

It shall not depart out of thy mouth and heart, not thy feet! Come on stop that! Come down from there!

Summary

Yet another ecclesiastical fallacy which has no form of root in the Bible whatsoever; totally unbiblical. If you are standing on the Bible, you had better stop that; God is watching you! Nonetheless, this is not about finding faults, it’s about establishing the truth and standing firm on the Word so that we would not be deceived or be deceiving ourselves.

Till next time, cheers and God bless you infinitely!!!
