Many times, we question the existence of God and attribute certain supernatural events to coincidence; the fact is, God really lives and He still continues to intervene and prove to us that He neither slumbers nor sleeps.

The Testimony

Last week, I had a serious appointment to meet up with and I was already running a little late given the annoying Lagos traffic. At least, I needed to budget a minimum of 1.5 hours to factor in the inevitable traffic jam in other to meet up. I quickly finished up some favours for some people, packed my bag, rushed home, suited up and off I went.

On getting to a particular bus stop, I was to board a direct bus that was like 70% of my journey and so I was rushing to meet up with a bus that was ready to go on the other side of the road. Failure to meet up with that bus meant that I had to wait for some extra minutes (which I didn’t have) for another bus to get filled up from the scratch to get on my way. So I crossed over to the other side, and I just had one more crossing to do. That particular road that I had to cross was a combined two-lane road with cars coming on opposite angles, one heading north and the other heading south. As a result, anybody crossing that road had to look properly on both sides to make sure the coast was clear, it was very risky.

The unfortunate thing was that my mind was totally on my appointment and that bus that was about to leave, so for that split second that I was about to cross, it didn’t occur to me to look to the left side, which I was nearest to, again, after checking it out initially. I had looked left and then looked right, and no car was coming. The moment I stepped out into the road, the next thing I knew was that I was seriously hit by a fast moving car from the left side. All I knew was that I spun around and my folder flew away, but I didn’t fall, miraculously. I adjusted my suit and walked majestically to pick up my folder and crossed over to the other side, but by that time, the bus had gone, so I had to wait another bus to get filled up.

The only thing I heard was an agbero (local trouble making daylight thieves) shouting at the bus driver on the other side saying, “Is you e wan make the car to kill person”. The car that hit me stopped and the people inside didn’t even come to check me, they were even practically warning me inside the car and sped off. After a while, I realized that the car did not only hit me, but the tyres actually climbed my legs with that speed. I still have the tyre marks on my shoes till this day. I boarded the other bus and went for my appointment.

On coming back at night, the devil still tried another means to cause me pain and havoc, it appears the devil really meant business with me that day; but too bad, at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow. The Lord gave His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways, they shielded me from the hit and bore me up in their hands, lest I dashed my feet against a stone. I still played football (monkey post) with my tyre climbed legs and even scored three goals, Isn’t God amazing?

This is not the first accident I’ve had, but definitely the last; yet this was a wonderful miracle because despite the speed of the car and the force of the hit, I didn’t fall, I rather spun around and not a single scratch, except to my shoes (poor blessed shoes). This is exactly how people die; they go out and just don’t come back, only for family members to be called to claim their bodies.

I just need us to remember that without God, we are nothing; without Him, we are not assured of tomorrow. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it and is safe.” It also says in Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” We are only saved by His grace and we need to always acknowledge Him.

To the only wise God my Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

Cheers and God bless you infinitely!!!
