Religious doctrines and belief systems have really done more harm than good in the world today. Even in the days of old and in Biblical times, these religious doctrines and laws even turned out to be a weapon of scam in the hands of the people to deceive God, but of course, you can’t deceive God, amateurs! (Isaiah 29:13). All God has always wanted is a one-on-one relationship with us where He talks to us and relates with us on a personal basis. Guys, have you ever been with a woman who couldn’t assimilate and you just kept doing all the talking? You’ll just be like “Ok! We’re done here” right? That’s how annoying it is when God keeps trying to get to us and we just don’t listen, the worst part is when we try to pretend like “O yes Lord, I’m listening” God would just be like “SMH”. In this series, and in a practical sense, I am going to expose us to the infinite media that God uses to speak to us and answer a lot of life’s questions, I will be exposing us to the voice of God even through the most minute means and media you least expected.

God’s Media

God is a spirit being, so that means that we can’t see Him nor touch Him, and in human sense, we can’t initiate a conversation with Him because He isn’t flesh and blood. But of course, that’s all looking from a logical perspective; by now, you should know that we walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). God has made Himself manifest in human form, He has been seen by men and He has had direct conversations with men here on earth (Genesis 18, Numbers 12:8). Yes, God is a real being with a body, a soul and a spirit, and He can choose to manifest to men in whatever form He pleases, depending on His relationship with them or the situation at hand. Let us now look at some of these media that God uses to speak to us:

1.    The Voice of the Spirit

Nowadays, we can’t be expecting that kind of angelic manifestations as of old before we hear the voice of God, it wouldn’t make sense, why? Because God Himself said in Joel 2:28-29,

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.”

God has poured out His Spirit to us now, and those are some of the different manifestations of the Spirit, but Jesus said in John 14:16-17,

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

Who is that comforter? Verse 26 answers that question,

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

We have been told that the Holy Spirit lives in us, but we need to acknowledge and recognize his presence as Jesus has told us. Even as at now, if you are still waiting to see a vision or dream a dream, or receive a prophecy, or see an angel, or even see God before you hear His voice; you have the right to do so, but from me to you, you are on a looooong thing. It’s like looking for something in ‘Sokoto’ (a state in Nigeria) while it has been in your ‘sokoto’ (Yoruba translation for trousers) all the while.

2.    The Bible

My brother in the Lord, Banakiya Godwin said “The Bible is not the word of God, it contains the word of God” I totally agree with him even though to avoid too much explanation and debate, we can just classify the Bible as the word of God as many have already done. I can’t count how many times God has spoken to me through the Bible, He even just spoke to me again through John 14:16-17 above. That is why I said “but we need to acknowledge and recognize his presence as Jesus has told us”.

Many times I’ll sin and condemn myself and God would tell me through the Bible that I’m forgiven. It’s not that I went and searched for scriptures talking about forgiveness, I was just studying the Bible and God spoke to me. Many times also I would be wronged and I would want to carry out vengeance and God would tell me through the Bible, “Forgive!” Against the contrary, I definitely would have been running away from anything talking about forgiveness at those points because of my pain.

3.    The Direct Voice and Presence of God

Yes, depending on your relationship with God, He can speak to you audibly. Numbers 12:7-8 says,

“My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”

Can you imagine? God spoke with him mouth to mouth, God even said that Moses saw Him in person. This wasn’t in heaven, this was here on earth. Oga Moses! RESPECT!

4.    Prophecies, Dreams and Visions

As we have already seen in Joel 2:28,

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions”

Based on the manifestation of the Spirit, God can speak to us through words of prophecy, dreams and visions. On the aspect of dreams as a spiritual feedback mechanism, I have been writing a series titled “Dreams Come True” so the aspect of dreams would not be covered in this series as they are already being covered in the former. Automatically, the “Dreams Come True” series would fill the vacuum of the voice of God through dreams.

I personally don’t like prophecies as they are highly prone to falsehood. I have prophesied and predicted things but I have never depended on the prophecies of others, and I have never been disappointed. I have had a lot of experiences with false prophets, sometimes it’s just so insulting when your faith is strong and you know the truth and someone is trying to deceive you. I have also seen visions, but never depended on the visions of others. False prophets and prophecies are highly on the increase and that’s why the Holy Spirit and the direct word of God, the Bible also being inclusive still remain the best media.

5.    Messengers of God

Messengers of God include pastors, prophets, apostles, evangelists and teachers. Angels are also messengers of God but they fall under the category of 3 above. God can use any of these offices but none of them can equal to the direct work of the Holy Spirit and your relationship with God. Why does God have to use messengers in the first place? Is it not because the people are not listening to him directly and He can’t get through to them?

Why do most people run to churches these days? Is it not to listen to the pastor and receive what God has for them, prophecies, blessing and miracles? It is majorly because they lack that personal relationship with God. That is the reason why the number of churches in the world today has proven to have little or no significant impact on the love and justice aspect of people’s lives which is the most important aspect of Christianity.

Who are the pastors you have today? Is it not people who listened to God and even went to the extent of leaving their mother churches to obey the voice of God? I have also pastored people and there was always that sense of spiritual lack and disconnection between them and God. Don’t get me wrong, I go to church, I have a pastor, and I listen to many other ministers of God; but my point is, I am in no way dependent on them. I love listening to my pastor because our spirits are usually in agreement. Most times God has revealed something to me or given me the understanding in a matter and then I go to church and as the pastor is preaching, he seconds that light. I don’t go to receive what he has for me, I go for the joy of fellowshipping with the brethren. The direct source is always the best. The Bible says that the brethren always went back and searched the scriptures to confirm what Paul had preached (Acts 17:11). They were encouraged by Paul, but they depended on the source of Paul’s understanding.

5.    Music

Music has been a very great spiritual weapon right from the times of old. Joshua took down the walls of Jericho through the sounding of trumpets and great shouts (Joshua 6:20) and David chased out demons from Saul through harps (1 Samuel 16:23). The book of Psalms in the Bible is literally a book of Psalms (Songs and poems). Each chapter is always indicated either as “A Psalm of David” or “A Song of Degrees” or “A Psalm of Praise” and majority “To the Chief Musician”.

Music is one of the most powerful tools both in the hand of God and the devil. The devil can minister thousands of demons into a soul through music and God also can chase out those demons and even consciously establish His presence in that soul through music. The voice of God through music can do exploits in the life of the listener. Even though I never knew what I was playing, the moment I laid my hands on the keyboard and started singing and writing songs to God, all forms of depression always fled and I could always feel the presence of God and an unshakeable faith. The more I write, the more I see the handwriting of God.

Most of what we listen to in the name of gospel music is rubbish. They are just business men and women trying to earn a living through their talented voices and huge financial and infrastructural resources. Also, we mostly just follow beats and the musician and we miss the whole point, yet, there is no means through which God cannot speak. R. Kelly is a very good example of what I’m saying. I don’t listen to him, but I have heard the voice of God and seen His manifestation through one of his songs. God even speaks through the lewdest of musicians, you just won’t believe it.

Have you listened to Don Moen and Michael W. Smith, my music mentors? These men don’t come to display skill, they come purely to sing the mind of God and pour out their hearts. There are thousands of gospel musicians alike that sing the mind of God and I am going to be reviewing these songs, even the secular songs, and bringing out the mind of God in them.

6.    Movies

When I say movies, I’m not just talking about Christian movies, I am also talking about all secular movies and series. Christian movies are usually too predictable, yet God still speaks through them. Many years ago, I saw the intro of an x-rated movie and from the mouth of the harlot came out wisdom of God; I was shocked to my bones. Till this day, I can’t forget those words. I have realized that God is everywhere and he even speaks through the least expected means. If God could make a donkey speak (Numbers 22:28), what medium is it that he cannot use?

We are at war, the spirit and the flesh, and just as the devil is trying his best through all sorts, God is also working. God was the one who boasted of Job against the devil. As the devil was at work, we also saw God at work (Job 1:6-12). Just like music and video games, the devil also ministers through movies. At the wedding of Cana, Jesus turned water into wine (alcoholic not fruit juice). With that same wine, there would have been people who would have drank themselves to stupor. I know this might sound strange, but trust me, with God there are endless possibilities.

Do you know that most of these movies of Greek and spiritual mythology are not farfetched? Through most of these movies, God shows us the devices of the devil and his weaknesses. A lot of children have died from trying to fly like Superman, I even have a cousin who got burnt trying to perform Superman stunts; yet, the same Superman passes a very strong message of love, judgment and justice. I saw one of those movies and God showed me a glimpse of the battle of Armageddon. The whole world one way or the other is swimming in the infinite wisdom of God, we just need to concentrate to hear, to feel and to see it.

7.    Random Speeches, Human Tools and Other Means

As I said earlier, if God could make a donkey speak, what medium can he not use? God showed Nebuchadnezzar the future, God even showed him the everlasting reign of Christ. God speaks through babies, He speaks through children, He speaks through the average manager at work, He speaks through the bus conductor, He speaks through the bus driver, He speaks through the taxi driver, He speaks through the okada (Commercial motorcycle) and tricycle riders. He speaks through situations and turn out of events, He speaks through health and sicknesses, He speaks through perfection and mistakes, He speaks through faith and weaknesses, He speaks through unions and breakups, He even speaks through sports.

God is even all over the Internet now, I am representing God on the Internet, He’s speaking through almost everybody on Facebook now, Twitter and other social media. Somebody just doesn’t know what to do and he goes on Facebook and says, “God is good”, another person goes and says “Baba God thank you for another day in the land of the living”. A girl had just asked me to help her cheat and talk bribes, of course I turned her down and she did away with me like a menstruous cloth. The next day, this girl was out on Facebook telling us to trust in God and not in man. As the devil is using people to stain our hearts with porn, gossips and other forms of graphical display through the social media, so also is God speaking. All He wants to do is just get to you.

Summary

The episodes in this series are going to be endless by the grace of God; they will feature practically all these media and more that I haven’t even identified above. It is high time we started paying attention and listening. That song says,

“There’s excitement in the air
God is moving everywhere”

Did you see that, from just two lines, God has just confirmed my word.

Brace yourself, your days of ignorance are over, here comes days of an endless connection and relationship with your maker.

Cheers and God bless you infinitely!!!
